RULES & INSTRUCTIONS

The Debating Championship, Junior Team is open to any student from Years 7 – 9 and Senior Team is open to any student from Years 10 – 12.

It is expected that all participants will compete with a spirit of co-operation, generosity, courtesy and consideration.

A host school with suitable space is required each year and adjudicators from Debaters Association of Victoria will be arranged by the SIS Executive Secretary.

Sections - Junior Teams - Years 7, 8 & 9. Senior Teams - Years 10, 11, 12
Senior Teams can be filled with Year 8 or 9 students if the schools so wished however, Junior Teams cannot be filled with any student higher than Year 9.
Each school is entitled to enter a maximum of 2 teams per Section. However, if this causes an uneven Draw, schools may be instructed to provide an additional team or requested to withdraw a team from the Section to eliminate any BYES.

Teams are called 1 and 2.
The first named team is the affirmative. (Please remember this for all debates)
Affirmative Teams to provide a Chairperson (only required for finals).
Each team must have two debates per round for Rounds 1 & 2.
The second being an unprepared/secret debate. Secret topics will be announced on the day.

Teams are not permitted to watch over teams in the same section (i.e. Junior cannot watch Junior). There should be no movement during the debates.
Strictly only video recording of your own/individual school students is allowed, with the permission from students and parents.

No laptops or mobile phones are to be used.
Where the SIS Secretary is not in attendance score sheets they are to be faxed through at the end of the day to 9781 5810.

Scoring - Win = 2 points, Loss = 0 points.
Schools to arrive for 9:00am for a 9:30am start. Finish at 2:00pm
